Equine Therapy

image.png

As well as being a Personal Trainer, I'm also a qualified Equine Therapist.

I offer fully accredited and insured Equine Sports Rehabilitation and Massage you can trust, with over years experience of working with horses.

Today, massage therapy is a highly respected form of holistic healing and practiced across the world. Not only has it developed in the human world, it has also been realised as a valuable profession within the animal world.

Various massage and stretching techniques can be applied, enabling the animal to not only perform to their full potential, but for those who may be having a quieter life, it can keep them supple, comfortable and using themselves correctly in their golden years.

Equine Sports Massage

Increase and improve circulation

Enhance muscle tone

Relax muscle spasm

Prevent and relieve adhesions

Increase the range of movement

Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues, muscle, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments to enhance health and well-being.

It involves manually working on the horse’s body with pressure, structured or unstructured, stationary, moving, tension, motion, or vibration.

Massage therapists work to reduce pain, improve movement and restore normal control in animals as a result of musculoskeletal conditions or as part of a maintenance fitness/general health programme

In competitive or working animals, massage may be used as an intrinsic part of the development of the animal athlete. Helping to minimise the risk of injury and optimise performance and potential.

By analysing and assessing posture, movement, and skeletal function, Equine Massage Therapists can help develop holistic treatment plans alongside veterinary treatment. These can often be accompanied by exercise and rehabilitation programs.

Assisting in promoting both vascular and lymphatic circulation

Improving joint mobility

Assisting flexibility and agility

Reducing the formation of scar tissue

Stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system

What to expect from your therapist?

Anyone treating your horse should hold a recognised qualification and full insurance. It is there responsibility to contact your vet prior to treatment and in some cases, following treatment, findings should be reported back to the treating vet.

There will be slight variations in how each therapist works, however, you should expect them to obtain a history, request to see your horse move, treat in an appropriate manor and provide you with advice and exercises to carry out in between treatments.

Here’s  my story

From a small toddler I have had the privilege of having horses in my life and remember vividly my first pony Elliot. The beautiful and checky Shetland that gave me the bug for the equestrian life. From then I always had a horse or pony in my life.

Throughout my years I have had various beautiful ponies including natives, show ponies, thoroughbreds, stallions and foals.

I worked my way through Pony club as well as showing at a young age and then progressed to a love of show jumping and cross country.

My herd at the moment is a mix bag but all equally fabulous.

I have Remi my ex racer, Mattie my daughters cheeky show Shetland, Reggie my sons loan cob, Tom my young Welsh Section D (who I have recently broken and are currently home producing) and then our newest recruit is Google a Welsh Section A that my daughter and niece are learning the ropes on.

It was my ex racer Remi that first got me thinking of becoming an equine therapist due to his great ability at getting injured! (Typical thoroughbred..) After he was diagnosed with kissing spine I wanted to expand my knowledge to help him. I absolutely loved my training and I love being hands on with horses and knew from my first treatment of a horse that this was what I wanted to. So Kylie Gallagher Equine was born.

Kylie was recommended to me by a friend. She came to treat a Belgium Warmblood we recently bought from a show jumping yard. He is a big horse, 16.2 solid lad and only 5yrs young and we knew he would need help to keep him supple and happy in his work being a big animal, still growing and maturing mentally and physically. Kylie took time with him, allow him to relax and enjoy his treatment. She relieved the tension in his back and pelvis area, he is working softly, loosely and happily now.
