Fad Diets (how much weight should you aim to lose?)

As definded by the association of UK dietitians, a fad diet is a diet where you eat a very restrictive diet for a short period of time to lose weight.

I have been there and got many t-shirts, trying to lost weight fast for something and if you've done the same, you'll want to carry on reading!

I understand we all want quick results, but that's all it is...a quick result is unsustainable and in can even lead to further weight gain. Dropping more than 2lb in a week, cannot be sustained long term. Let's put it this way, if you are losing big amounts of weight weekly, you're likely not to be losing fat and more likely muscle and water.

Healthy weekly weight loss, in my opinion, is around 1 to 2lbs, that's a 7000 kcal defecit needed, so you'll have to reduce calories intake by 7000. Any higher than this and you'll struggle to stick to it.

So, to conclude, forget the Fad Diets, eat whole foods, exercise and apply a sensible calories deficit.
